1. Build – Totally Not Batman
A. Basic - Spiked Gauntlets - Does pretty decent damage, has short range (important because we use Cestus punch), and does more damage to bleeding targets. Cestus punch sets a bleed, so we like this. While the Staff is pretty awesome, it puts us out of range for Cestus punch and it doesn't really synergize. We'll stick with this nice level 1 basic to start. MAX THIS ABILITY AT ALL TIMES.
B. Cestus Gauntlet Punch - Our single target spirit spender. Does a bunch of extra damage to blues, yellows, and bosses (40%). Also sets a bleed on targets, which means our Spiked Gauntlets do extra damage. MAX THIS ABILITY AT ALL TIMES.
C. Truncheon Ricochet - Moon Knight throws his truncheon, and it bounces between a bunch of enemies-doing tons of damage. We'll throw this at the beginning of a fight to initiate, and it increases the damage of our next melee attack. Because of this, I'd suggest using it right before we pop Gruesome Frenzy, our sig. Has a fairly short cooldown so its more or less spammable. MAX THIS ABILITY AT ALL TIMES.
Consider also Crescent Fan as your AOE clear. See note below
D. Gruesome Frenzy - Our signature. We have to mash it a bunch of times like a combo ability in a brawler, and its amazing. Does a brick-ton of damage and the last hit (a pretty sweet haymaker) does an incredible amount of damage, and every hit in the combo has an execute mechanic (moar damage to targets with lower health). MAX THIS ABILITY AT ALL TIMES.
E. Carbonadium Armor - An absolutely amazing passive. Def, +Health, ignore damage as you get low on health, and block. The lower we get, the more we ignore! Very much like Punisher's Pain Tolerence. MAX THIS ABILITY AT ALL TIMES
F. Tools or Avatar of Vengeance - We get passive crit rating and damage for lower health, and flat damage for lower spirit at all times. Additionally if you pop Tools, you go down to 0 spirit but all of your abilities cost 0 spirit for the duration, and Avatar sets you at 1 health but you can't die for the duration (and you heal based on damage you deal during the duration once it ends). Pick whichever one you like, and dump extra points here. DUMP POINTS IN THIS PASSIVE OR MAX IT, ITS BETWEEN THIS AND FIST OF KHONSHU
Note: We can only activate this ability once we get max Tribute, and we get Tribute by fighting and being near our Statue of Khonshu when its up
G. Khonshu Unbound - CC breaker, yay! PUT ONE POINT IN THIS ABILITY
H. Fist of Khonshu - Crit/Brutal rating, damage to targets attacking you, chance to make those you brutal cower in fear. DUMP POINTS INTO THIS ABILITY WHEN YOU HAVE EXTRAS OR MAX IT, ITS BETWEEN THIS AND TOOLS/AVATAR FOR MAXING.
Note @Rafsee suggests maxing Fist of Khonshu over Tools/Avatar since the benefits are always on, in the spirit of laziness. Sounds good to me!
I. Statue of Khonshu - Pop this to get some health/spirit on hit, damage rating, and the statue can take a few hits before it goes down. ONE POINT WONDER.
J. Multiple Personalities - A little passive that gives you a free revive once every 10 minutes, some Special Item Find, and credit find. PUT ONE POINT IN THIS ABILITY.
K. Combat Maneuvers -Your movement power, gives you attack/movement speed after you use it. PUT ONE POINT IN THIS ABILITY
CRSCENT FAN NOTE - Lots of folks in this thread have suggested taking this as an AOE option, probably dropping points from Truncheon. It does 300% bonus AOE damage, at max range, is cheap, applies a bleed, and pierces! It also makes his Slot 5 Launcher Unique more meaningful. Credit to everyone in the thread who mentioned it, including @canadiangopher @nukemi @nashur
Playstyle-
A. Start a debate in social chat about whether or not Moon Knight is Batman.
B. Roll into enemies.
C. Throw a Truncheon to kill trash.
D. Cestus/Spiked Gauntlet punch murder blues/yellows/bosses.
E. Use your sig to blow up a boss!
2. Gear
Uniques:
Slot 1 – Marc Spector's Spiked Gauntlets (Moon Knight Unique) is awesome! Crit, crit damage rating, attack speed, spirit on kill, and +6 to our punchy-things-melee tree. Since all of our active abilities come from this tree, and Carbonadium Armor, we absolutely need this Unique to get our abilities pretty high point-wise.
Slot 2 – Lockey's Advanced Cardonadium Armor (Moon Knight Unique) - Durability and Strength, check. Health, %12 chance for projectiles to deal half damage, +1 to all powers, and +a bunch to Carbonadium Armor. With our Gauntlets, that's like +14 to this ability-and that's super useful.
Slot 3 –Golden Mantle of Khonshu (Moon Knight Unique) - Health, reveals enemies, spirit reduction on power cost, regen, +to our Khonshu Blessing powers. Khonshu Blessing powers include our Tools and Avatar, as well as Multiple Personalities, our CC breaker, and Fist of Khonshu. We can absolutely use some points in these since we've invested points in our actives.
Slot 4 – Fist of Khonshu Boots (Moon Knight Unique) - Movement Speed, Health, Spirit, Rare/Special item find, +2 to all powers. If you want an Any Hero DPS option - go Hand Assassin Ninja Tabi, if you want a tanky option, Herc sandals. Pretty useful, however.
Slot 5 – Tripwire Crescent Launcher (Moon Knight Unique) - Other than the crit/brutal rating these are mostly for Ranged. Since we use like no ranged powers, I'd grab a useful cosmic you can find.
Artifacts:
Idol of Khonshu - Can be very useful. Truncheon Ricochet procs it, so we do extra damage after using it.
Advanced Kung Fu - We're melee, why not! Dodge, health, damage.
Advanced Super Soldier Serum/Advanced Crimson Crystal - Tank/DPS. These can be super useful for giving you some added health and damage.
Hand of Doom/Xerogen/Advanced Meta - Advanced Meta if you need power points, HoD, Gem of the Kursed, Xerogen for standard damage stats.
Blessings: Helas all the way for brutes!
Costume: +1 Fighting and +1 Strength. With a Bonebreaker Uru enchant, and the Carbonadium Armor-you're looking at +3 Strength. That's awesome.
Legendary: Moon Knight gets a lot of crit from his passives and Uniques. If you're hurting for more, get a Gungir. If not-go Excalibur. Nothing wrong with Life on Hit, and some decent added damage.
Insignia: Dat O'Grady.
Uru item: Melee Uru with Bone Breaker as your cheap option or Heartbreaker for crit.
Relics: Lemurias for life on hit.
Medallion: Kingpin for Health and damage.
@Khurghan suggests Tombstone for moar tankiness and such. Good choice!
3. Leveling Strategy
You unlock your Spiked Gauntlet right at level 1. Awesome! We'll be using Truncheon Ricochet and your Cestus punch by the teens to murder pretty much everything, and you'll unlock passives along the way. Get used to using Tools or Avatar at full Tribute (your secondary resource bar) in order to make the most of their awesome passives. Try not to get yourself killed if you go Avatar though! Once you get Gruesome Frenzy, you'll completely destroy bosses - just make sure to get them to half or so first so that you can take full advantage of the execute mechanic.
I have read your Moon Knight guide and have a few suggestions. I hope you don't mind.
1) I would recommend maxing Fist of Khonsu over Tools / Avatar of Vengeance because the benefits are always available regardless of your current health and spirit. This requires less managing and truer to a lazy noob guide. It provides Brutal Strike rating which helps in gaining Tribute faster for more Tribute use. It also increases the fear duration which means an easier time DPSing as a lazy noob. See point 2 for why I prefer not having your DPS attributes tied too much to your spirit pool.
2) I would recommend dropping Spiked Gauntlet to 7-8 points and maxing Crescent Fan instead. Crescent Fan is great for a few reasons. Moon Knight is strong enough with Cestus Gauntlet Punch and Gruesome Frenzy for single target damage but is pretty light in the AOE department. Crescent Fan requires only a general direction to fire at with great coverage and 100% piercing. It hits multiple times at near range while doing up to 300% more damage at a longer range. It is versatile enough to use it for single target or AOE damage. It also has a bleed that can be used threefold. Firstly, a piercing bleed attack can be used to restore Spirit via Maht's so that a lazy noob has no need to worry about spirit. Secondly, bleeds help to improve tribute gain when they critically or brutally hit. (Very useful to run around and bleed things at range for tribute gain while in a difficult situation) Thirdly, Crescent Fan benefits a lot from his Slot 5 Unique and helps to up your Truncheon damage via the plus damage to bleeding targets property of his Slot 5 Unique. (If you are unable to Cestus Gauntlet Punch a foe in melee range) Crescent Fan does more damage on the whole than maxing Spiked Gauntlet.
3) I would suggest a point in Glider Cape. Moon Knight runs rather slowly and flying around really cuts downtime traversing terrain and skipping mobs.
4) If you take into consideration my recommendations, then Maht's and Gungnir seem to be stronger candidates for your gear slots. For insignia, I would recommend Valkyrie's for more health over O'Grady's. He also benefits more from a Defense or Physical Uru than a Melee Uru. I currently feel that very few characters actually benefit from a Melee Uru much as they always seem to have a bleed or a ranged Physical damage attack. Subterranea would also be a relic you might consider. Lastly, for his Costume Core, I would recommend Fighting with 25% H/S.
I apologize in advance if I get anything wrong >.<
I currently build him the way I described with Tripwire Bolas over Truncheon because I like the way he fires the Bolas from a gun instead of him throwing a stick. I find that the Bolas scale well in damage and duration as you put more points in and seem fun to use for single target or AOE. I do, however, acknowledge the melee advantage and ease of use benefits of his Truncheon.
