A melee build offers more damage and mobility, at the cost of survivability, than a ranged one. My template gives you all the "bare-bones" essentials to make your own successful melee build. Before I start with recommendations and tips, I'd like to just give a friendly reminder that you don't need to actually use Pummel as your basic - if you don't have a 25% health and spirit on medkit core, or a Shrinking Serum, you may need/want to use Spider Strike as a basic. Heck, you don't even need to use one (but I'd recommend that you do)! Anyways, after fulfilling the template, I suggest to max Leaping Assault/Wrecking Ball for AoE (whichever your favorite is) (don't max both), and then dump points into Constrictive Webbing, Superior Agility, Spider Sense, a movement power, and/or Web Spray. Just remember to keep everything webbed while using this build - you do not want to miss out on all the extra damage from Spider To The Fly.
My recommended artifacts for a fully melee build would be Adv (or not) Kung Fu Training Sequence, Adv (or not) Metasensory Array, Adv (or not) Crimson Crystal of Cytorrak, and Pym's Shrinking Serum. However, most of the choices in the "gear" section would work amazingly (or should I say...superiorly?) well. The relic choice, again, can be anything from Part 2, and the medallion would preferably be Tombstone. A good costume core for this build is to use a 25% Health and Spirit on medkit use along with Health/Defense/Life Leech (if you have any)/Invulnerability or Invisibility on medkit use. I like to have invulnerability and the 25% for ranged builds, since invulnerability lets you stay in melee range while tanking all the hits. It's better than invisibility since a melee character will usually be taking damage when in the fray, which invisibility doesn't stop.
