The essential goal is to have a rotation of abilities that allow for your Mysticism to cap (5/5 points) as fast as possible and as often as possible that produces the most DPS. To survive X-Defense, I've focused this build modified from Teamcool on defense, dodge, and health regen skills. The usable skills are as follows:

Preliminary potentially effective rotation options:
20 Seven Suns of Cinnibus (2 s cd) 18.2k, 515 crit, 860 crit
20 Crimson Bands of Cyttorak (3 s cd) 3.8k x 2
20 Flames of the Faltine (4 s cd) 5k x 2
20 Demons of Denark (5 s cd) 6k x 2 for 5 sec
20 Icy Tendrils of Ikthalon (6 s cd) 23k slowed attack/move
20 Vapors of Valtor (25 s cd) 7k per strike
20 Seal of Vishanti (12 s cd) damage/defense
1 Winds of Watomb (15 s cd) 16k
1 Shield of the Seraphim (18 s cd) 25% of damage negated/heath regen
1 Seven Rings of Raggadorr (12 s cd) 100% projectile deflection that restores spirit during deflection

Because my build is for survival in X-Def, I chose to max SoV & AT until better gear provides more defense/survival. After getting several characters to 60,leveling Heroes in X-Def after level 30 is my preferred approach because my stash is usually full of Uniques/Cosmics by the time I reach 50. Dr. Strange is the first Hero I've leveled to 40 from 30 strictly in X-Def without dropping any Cosmics. The area did not yielded a Unique until level 55.

Since we can only place 8 skills on a bar, to avoid switching skill bars during enemy engagement, I chose only three offensive skills with Daggers and Fangs on function buttons to quickly switch to single target after dropping seals. Although Cinnibus provides high DPS, it is not effective at max range, where I attempt to stay in X-Def. Although I love the DPS and duration of Flames, Bands must first be effective to keep the enemy in place or Flames misses. In my opinion, it is critical to use/max Band for immobilization, Demons for health regen, and Tendrils for the slow effect. I love Vapors DPS but, the cd is so high that it is not available after the mystic energy reset and its damage could be reproduced by the short cd of other spells. I placed only 1 point in Eye, even though it lasts for 15 seconds, only because of the 60s cd. I dumped extra points in Dreamwalking for the spirit reduction that proves effective when Fanging.

My setup:
LM: Seal of Vishanti
A: Mystic Shift
S: Crimson Bands of Cyttorak
D: Demons of Denark
F: Icy Tendrils of Ikthalon
G: Shield of the Seraphim
E: All-Seeing Eye
RM: Daggers of Daveroth (F1), Fangs of Farallah (F2)
(My current gear provides Winds of Watomb at level 14 but I cannot figure out how to successfully add it to my rotation for the massive DPS burst. Someone asked if Signatures will get their own button like Ultimates. It has never been relevant until playing Strange.)

From Teamcool (modified)
Fangs is his best single target. I'm not the biggest fan of casting Demons of denak and using a weak basic to finish off elites. This build does the job and you will trash clear and won't have many problems in Cosmics. Don't be afraid to pop all seeing eye. It lasts for 15 seconds . If you build demons and lose Fangs you have to take pts away from somewhere to build up a basic and I think that would be a big long in the end run just to pump up a single target with a cast time that does ok dmg and a weaker basic or a basic with a short delay that may not hit your intended target.

Defense uru with Storm giant magi or River of soul with a mental uru. Depends on what you have so situational. 2 mental dmg enchants and 3 health enchants.

The mental headband is well a must if you have it. I don't but if I did I would definitely be using that over the pluvian. You could swap in a GOK over the the ADV SS depending what legendary you side with. Again I don't have one to spare for him so for now he's SOL and with a Gungir it's not needed really. Also marvelbase needs to update their artifacts list it's really outdated.

Warlocks eye or Gungir. After reading and further testing it's looking like Gungir may still win out even after Warlocks buff. I'm puttin crit dmg on affixes 3,4 and 1,2 will have dmg rating. He gets crit rating from his passive and crit dmg from his uniques so he'll be stacked.

Bands, flames, icy tendrils.Seal of Vishanti. Seal will up your dmg and your defense while inside it. Rinse repeat use vapors and all seeing eye when heavily mobbed or you just feel overwhelmed by elites/bosses. Fangs will be your single target killer so this is for elites and bosses. Just spam once you lay the ground work. Keep in mind you get more dmg on Fangs for every incantation that is on c/d. So it will beef up the more you have down. This is a heavy dmg DOT/CC burn before you die build. If you want stack health on your costume affixes. I like his slot 1 for the plus to stats but damn a Darkhold unique with a ton of mental dmg would be hard to pass up as well.

So far switchin between the book of vishanti and a darkhold it's about a 1100 dmg rating difference on mental dmg for me. My darkhold is at +1415 mental dmg rating. Plus with a darkhold you get brutal rating and brutal dmg which he lacks.

COSMIC 1 PT WONDERS: These 2 skills are 1 pt wonders for cosmic runs or late wave X-def/Holo runs. Seven rings has 100% deflection which is perfect for heavy fire in AIM terminal. Also the Images of Ikohn works wonders as a taunt so you can freely burn as you wish. You may need to work around 2 hotbars for these.

Synergies: Emma, DD, Cable, Strange, GR, Hawkeye, JG, HT, SW, SG, Wolvie.

2 Hela and 2 Baldur for blessings. Hard to beat 10% brutal rating and 6% chance to avoid projectiles

Using a Valkyrie insg that has ranged dmg raitng and health on enemy defeat.

This is my for fun build. I don't want to make another entire build just for this kicks one. Trident legendary use a raptor stone instead of a pluvian. Mental uru with River of soul is needed for spirit to keep the projections. You could use bolts as a basic as well either seems fine. Put astral legion and projection on another hotbar. You'll only need to call them all out once so keeping them on a main bar is pointless.

Again this one is more just for fun.
