The Amazing Spider Man

Introduction

Hello all. Here is my 1.4 Spider Man guide. A few things I want you to keep in mind with this build.

Here's a link to my new guide and my current build at lvl 60:

Amazing Crimefighter

How it works:

This is an end game build, which really doesn't become feasible until around mid 50's, where you can get Web Barrage and Web Wrecking Ball at decent ranks.

For trash killing, or really any situation where it's not just 1 on 1, which is most of the time, the strategy is to Web Spray to the center of the mass of targets, applying the damage vulnerability to as many targets as possible. Then, Leaping Assault at the same location you just sprayed, dealing massive damage, covering large ground, causing a knockdown around you, and killing most whites around you. To finish it off, use Web Wrecking Ball. If there's yellows in the fray, you may have to reapply WS, just to keep the damage vulnerability up.

For bosses, and/or single target kills, it's a simple 1, 2 combo. Web Spray, then Web Barrage. Keep in mind that it is okay to zip around to avoid damage. This may interrupt your total dps, but you'll live longer, and get a nice increase in attack speed, making WB that much more powerful. If the boss is on you, ei you can't keep it as a ranged game, then simply replace WB with Spidey Pummel. Same strategy, but you may have to throw in a Deflective Web Shield once in a while, and zip a little more to maintain that attack speed bonus.

Powers

Maxed powers

Spidey's best melee power. Now, I do like the idea behind Spider Strike, but with this build, the only time you are using melee is against a 1 on 1 melee fight with a boss or a yellow. In that case, SP clearly, without a doubt, out dps's SS

One of Spidey's best powers. Yes, the animation looks a little weird, and yes, you will wonder how he can maintain this without getting dizzy. lol. But trust me, WWB combined with Elektra medallion will clear trash fast and safe. You'll come out still with full, or almost full spirit and health. The hp regen from the Elektra medallion alone is what makes this skill. You can be less than 50% health, use WWB in a crowd, and within a second or 2, you'll be full again. It's a more efficient than using a med kit and DWS.

The stun is short, and the move and attack speed is nice but not life saving, but the damage vulnerability is where this power now shines. Spray everywhere, get that vulnerability up as much as you can. Not only does it make all your attacks more powerful, but everyone else's attacks as well. WS Combined with LA makes the difference between maybe one shot'ing whites with guaranteed one shot'ing whites. The 2nd highest priority to rank up next to WB.

Get this power as high as you can. With enough ranks, and with the right combination of artifact and medallion, and this becomes your #1 single target tps skill. As mentioned in introduction, the Mandarin Medallion will boost the dps of WB even further, and Elektra Medallion really doesn't add anything to this skill since it's not a movement power. This skill is also the primary reason why +attack speed is nice on Spidey. The more shots you can dish out, the fast you'll drop the boss, and the more often the Mandarin Medallion will trigger.

I don't think I need to go into great detail in this skill. Massive dodge bonus, and a seperate % chance to dodge projectiles, this skill is a must and the higher you get this, the longer you can stand toe to toe with baddies.

My personal favorite power of Spidey's. In my opinion, it's the power that makes me feel the most like I'm playing Spider Man. Aside from esthetic reasons, this power has many advantages. It covers large distances. I allows you to be in many places on the battlefield. It leaps over most projectiles(not all, some will still hit you, so it's still better to move out of the way if it's at all possible). It deals a lot of damage in 1 shot(compared to WWB and WB which will both deal more damage, but in an extended time. It causes knockdown, giving you a break in enemy attacks. It's aoe is decently large. It can be used as an alternative to WZ to avoid an oncoming big attack like Rhino/jug charge. The only downside to this skill is that sometimes it will get interrupted, leaving you vulnerable for a fraction of a second, and is a little bit on the expensive side for spirit. Still, I love this power, and every time I've tried a different build that excludes this power, I end up missing it, wanting to use it.

Amazing buff. Really makes the difference in spidey being squishy and being able to stand toe to toe with big melee hitters like Gorgon, Deathstrike, and others. It has a passive armor bonus, and will increase your armor by a set amount, and a % amount, has a chance to deflect projectiles, and has a pretty good health regen. I'll even use it when I'm on down time with no mobs around and my health is low, just to regen my health. As said in my intro, I am relying on gear to grant me this above rank 20, since I don't have enough points to rank it up, but I feel like it needs to.

One Point Wonders

Breaks cc. Not much else is good about it. The movement is poor, and the damage mine as well not be there. 1 point and leave it alone.

I had a hard battle with myself to keep this as a 1 point wonder. It's a powerful attack, and has many uses, but the overall damage you get, which is the only reason why you would want to rank this up, is negligible when compared to IM's One-Off and Thor's Godblast. So now I keep it as a 1 point wonder(unless I find gear that grants this at 20+), or, well, 2 points(it was my excess skill point). I use it for 2 uses. First, I mainly use it to gather up all the baddies into one convenient pile. I'll WS at my feet, use AS to bring everybody to me, WS at my feet again, then LA, and then WWB to finish them all off, if any still standing. This 1, 2, 3, 4 combo is devastating. On top of that, IM's and Thors will love you for gathering them all up in a neat little pile for their own big hitters to make very very quick work of any none boss. The other reason to use this power is for the 100% dodge. When ever you are in trouble, and AS is off CD, use it, it will save your life. AS followed by DWS will put you back on even ground with what ever you are fighting for a few seconds at least.

I do love this passive, and when 1.4 came out, I was dead set on maxing this out. +brutal hit??? amazing!! However, you just do not have enough skill points to go around, and there are better, more all around useful powers that require those skill points. Worth the initial 1 point for the added 50% damage to your melee, which applies to all your attacks except for WB.

At the moment, I have gear that grants this at 20+ ranks. However, if I find gear that grants either AS, STTF, SA, or DWS at rank 20+, I'll probably switch over and making this a 1 point wonder. The dot is nice but not needed for your overall dps, and the bonus damage to web attacks, which is your 2 main dps skills, WWB and WB, but that bonus gets smaller as the closer your target is, making it only really useful for WB, and if you are solo playing, this will be difficult to take full advantage of very often. It is very good, but very situational.

There are a lot of people complaining about the stop animation of this power. It honestly does not bother me. If I need to get somewhere fast, I'll web swing instead. I use this for quick movement on the battle field, like getting behind big hitters(even though spidey is more durable, let the real tanks tank that boss), causes a knock down(not as good as LA, but still nice), but the real reason why I love this power, and why I would consider wearing gear that grants this at a higher rank, is the attack speed buff. It's massive. At rank 1 I believe is already +10% attack speed.

Speaking of attack speed, this passive is mainly for the attack speed increase, and the tenacity bonus scales pretty well too. The attack speed bonus is negligible compared to what you get from WZ however, and once again not enough skill points to go around, so, a 1 point wonder, and will probably remain that way.

Web Swing. 'nuff said.

At first glance, I didn't think I liked this power at all. Then I took an other look and noticed that very sizable damage bonus vs targets attacking you. I find this scales very well as well. The only reasons this has been delegated to a 1 point wonder is not enough skill points to go around, and you still don't want enemies to attack you, let the big guys be your meat shield. I do rank this above STTF however, so definitely if I find gear that grants this at 20+ ranks, I'm taking it.

Gear

Here is my priority list when looking for gear.

Web Shooter

I just got the unique, lvl 57, so..... not looking for any other until I find a lvl 60. It's amazing. With bonus to physical damage, my lvl 53 Epic web shooter deals a total of 700 damage. This lvl 57 unique deals over 1600 damage. On top of that, it deals additional damage vs targets with webbed status, and a huge increase in attack speed, 10% reduced cost of web powers, and + to Webslinger powers, this will be the game changer for my WB.

If you don't have the unique however, I say look for increased attack speed, + physical damage, + spirit on basic hit, + spirit on kill, + ranks in my listed maxed powers, WB being the main priority.

Body

This is going to be a hard decision for me. I do not have the unique for this slot yet, but I know it's out there and I know that it's really good. If I get the unique, and wear it, I lose out on a slot that grants a skill at x ranks, so will be difficult to make that decision.

As stated, for this slot, you want grants (power) with x ranks for one of the powers I have listed in my guide, skills that are good, but not necessary to get above rank 30. You also want +def, +dodge(I don't remember if dodge can be found on body armor slot), +health. +spirit is nice but not necessary at late to end game.

Head

I've been wearing Shadowed Mask of Kane since lvl 23. I found one at lvl 36, and am currently wearing one at lvl 46. The armor bonus is still bigger than what you can find on lvl 54 head gear(my current level). The -mental def kind of hurts, but not enough to make you not to wear it. The other downside is it gives no bonus to skills, which also kind of hurts. But, +2 to all stats is really hard to say no to. One of the best uniques in the game in my opinion(from the uniques I've seen so far)

If you don't have the unique, I suppose you would want +crit hit, since this is the only item slot that can have that bonus, + to WB over + any other skill, then + to any skill I have listed in maxed ranks.

*******edit********

I may change my mind on this. When I hit 60, and let's say I find a lvl 60 blue mask that gives + crit chance, +def/health, +5 to either WS or WB, well, I may change it up, that may be worth it.

Gloves

No uniques, so this slot is for sure reserved for a grants power at rank 20+. Everything else is as I mentioned, +def, +health, +dodge

Boots

No uniques for this slot, so, same priority as I described for the head slot.

note: I think boots is the only gear that DOES get dodge, so may be a #1 priority stat for this slot.

Hotkey placement

I hate keeping Web Shield in my F functions, because it's not an easy to get to option for in case of emergencies, but I don't use it as often as I once did once I hit 60 and now have all 3 of his uniques. This power because less important, but still good to have in a pinch. More used in X-Defense really.

Final thoughts

So, I hope this guide will give you something to think about, if you're stuck, don't know how to build spidey, or just looking for a 2nd or a 3rd opinion on some spidey stuff. Feel free to comment, I like feedback.

Edits

Added hotkey placement

I added a link to my new guide and my current build at lvl 60. This guide is still good if you prefer to have a hybrid, jack-of-all-trades spidey build, but my new build is more focused on melee.
