Estranged son of the evil mutant Mystique, Kurt Wagner was raised by a fortune teller and grew up as part of a travelling circus in Germany. Using his unique physique and agility, he performed as the star acrobat for years until finally attempting escape. During this escape, Nightcrawler teleported for the first time, an event that lead to him being rescued from an angry mob by Professor Charles Xavier, who came to recruit him into the X-Men.Marvel Source
From there, Nightcrawler became a mainstay of the X-Men’s various incarnations, as well as other teams such as Excalibur. He uses his teleportation, expert swashbuckling and superhuman agility to defeat enemies quickly, but maintains a light-hearted and positive attitude and serves as a moral anchor for the team.

I used this build for all 360 levels through red prestige. Melee damage works well, so Excalibur is a viable option when using any sword build. Gungnir is a better overall option for Nightcrawler, and I wanted Excalibur largely for the novelty of having Excalibur and Excalibur's Saber.
I skipped his hero specific unique chest and picked up a Symbiote Infestation for this build. So far the added durability and 5% damage increase has been very nice.
Madame Hydra medallion can be replaced by either Kingpin, or Blob. It is largely a preference based slot and I chose Hydra because my Cosmic Kingpin and Cosmic Blob medallions currently have bad rolls.
As for rings a well rolled cosmic ring could be good, but I am personally farming out another PvP Hogun ring. The potential for 500+ damage paired with ~1000 health is the best option.
