Things to consider:
Stalker Tanks use a combination of Deflect and Lifesteal to keep themselves afloat. Where one fails, the other should be able to take up the slack.
Your Threat generation is pretty smooth - no need to worry about Threat feast and famine like Warrior Tanks.
The Basics:
Deflect Coefficient: Stalker Tanks stay alive by not getting hit, often referred to as "Evasion Tanks". To do this they have the highest Deflect:Insight coefficient in the game; 1:1 vs. 0.5:1 for Warriors and 0.25(!) for Engys.
Stances: Stalkers have 3 Stances to choose from, each with their own attributes. Stalker Tanks want to be in
Evasive Stance, as it grants +25% Deflect and +150% Threat.
Innate: The Stalker can use
Stealth in all three Stances. Sadly, the Stealth bonus for Stalker Tanks (a short +15% Deflect buff when leaving Stealth) is weak compared to Assault Stalkers (100% Crit for the first attack from Stealth). An AoE Taunt when leaving Stealth would be nice...
Resource: Stalker skills consume a resource called
Suit Power (SP). It starts at 100% and continuously replenishes itself. In addition, both Stalker specs have a
Filler Skill that does not use SP. Those who have played Rogues (WoW) or Thieves (GW2) will find it very familiar.
Skills:
: Your AoE Tanking skill. More Targets = More DPS = More HPS.
: Filler. Try to use this skill as little as possible.
: Your go-to PVP tanking skill and your PVE "Oh, Sh%t" skill. Expensive at 25 Suit Power, so use it carefully.
: Your big mitigation and DPS/Threat skill. Very expensive to use, but very powerful.
: How well you use this skill will determine how you perform as a Stalker Tank.
: Your single target Tanking skill.
: Probably the only reason you'll ever want to go into Stealth as a PVP Tank. You can swap it out for
to gather trash packs more efficiently in PVE.
: Never leave home without this - the ultimate party favor for Stalkers.
Rotations/Skill Priority:
1: Keep
off cooldown. THIS IS IMPORTANT. This skill is the alpha and omega of Stalker Tanking - it boosts your avoidance and provides Suit Power to a resource-hungry build.
2: is a great way to say hello to enemy packs in PVP or quickly pick up trash packs in PVE.
3: Use
if you have 40+ Suit Power and are starting to take damage.
4: Start weaving
into your rotation when you've lost your Shields and are starting to lose Health. Getting Tier 4 means that your Threat doesn't drop too much when you use this skill. Time this skill after using
.
5: Likewise, if you're losing Health to packs instead of single mobs, use
instead. Don't forget to pop the skill just before it expires. Spamming this skill is the Moonfire Spam of Wildstar and it makes the Baby Jesus cry.
6: Use
as filler if you have less than 40-50 Suit Power and aren't taking too much damage.
7: can be used to keep yourself alive or support other melee DPS and Tanks. With only a 45s cooldown, you don't need to be shy about using it.
8: gets you to the trash packs in PVE, but it consumes a good chunk of SP. Used in PVP from Stealth to initiate ganks by locking down the Primary.
AMPs:
Not much to choose from. I expect more will be added before launch.
Support Tier 1:
Deflect is a no-brainer. Mandatory. Mastery is not recommended as a CC reduction is not really a priority for a Stalker Tank.
Empowered Attack Mastery is Mandatory, as it allows your
to work like a weak
, making you a more effective multi target tank. Synergizes
very well with
's fast attack speed and Tier 4 Shield Restore effect.
Support Tier 2:
Armor: Optional. 8% of a Medium Armor wearer isn't much, but it's something. Mastery isn't recommended, as
uses SP better spent elsewhere.
Regeneration and
Dont' Call It A Comeback synergize well as they both automatically trigger at 35% Health. If you get one then get the other.
Forbearance: More Deflect? Yes, please. Mandatory.
Technology Mastery - Mandatory. More Deflect > More Tech and
procs > More Deflect = Win
Support Tier 3:
Is That All You Got? Recommended. Not as situational as it looks, considering the Stalker Tank's self-healing capabilities.
Last Stand is pretty much the mandatory Tank "Oh, Sh#t" ability, especially when you consider that Stalker Tanks don't have an "Ultimate" skill like the Warrior's
Bulwark or Engy's
Provocation ExoSuit. Automatically triggers, too!
Don't Call It A Comeback: Recommended. See
Regeneration.
This whole build is worthless, I dont know why anyone would make a build and show it for pve and pvp, choose one or the other, not both. For pve, this would never work and the person who made this has probably never tanked vet dungeons or have any idea on how to actually play. do NOT follow any of this.
The recent patch pretty much messed everything up, and the skill tooltips are NOT entirely up to date. Pre-patch builds like this one should not be listed as "Current". I'm going to wait a bit before updating these guides, apologies to anyone reading them and feeling a bit confused.
